Coffee and Tea in Cyprus

United Kingdom: DrinkingTea

The coffee of Cyprus is incredibly unique, unlike the other countries in Europe. In Cyprus, it’s served black and in a short glass, alongside a glass of water. Sugar is available upon request, but is not recommended. The coffee of Cyprus is unfiltered, and therefore not meant to be stirred after serving, as it would agitate the grounds at the bottom of the cup. You’ll be sure to see some old native men of Cyprus lounging outside the local kafeneio, or coffee shop, drinking their black coffee and playing tavli, or backgammon.
Although coffee is the drink of choice, you’ll easily be able to find all varieties of caffeinated and decaffeinated teas as well.
